Elefunk : The Other Wall

So, you know the Ex Vandals crew came to Oakland to rock a wall. Well there was another wall adjacent to that and some of Oakland's (and two of Phoenix's ) finest came out to party with the Ex Vandals. Local artists Ernest Doty, Sean Griffin, Onedr and Nite Owl were joined by the father son duo of Such and Champ Styles. These 6 artists each brought their own special FUNk to the wall and paid tribute to a bygone era. Influenced by Kenny Scharf, Futura, Fab Five Freddy, Dondi R.I.P. , Lee, Keith Haring and the other artists of the Fun Gallery days, their wall held it's own alongside the wild Ex Vandals production.

Elefunk Part 2

Here we go - the last post was filled with some in progress shots from the legendary EX VANDAL crew. Today we're bringing you the finished product. 3 days in the making, 22 writers and a countless supply of paint - all in honor of Patti Astor and her FUN Gallery. History in the making, as NYC came to Oakland to crush a wall.

Elefunk Part 1

This past weekend, Oakland was the scene of the crime.  Patti Astor was the motive. Members of the EX VANDALS crew (one of the first graffiti crews in existence) came from all over the country for a West Coast meet up / wall jam to honor Patti A. and her legendary FUN Gallery. Founding members of the crew, Wicked Gary, Flint and Kool Kito all made the trip from Brooklyn.  They also brought some of their friends, Stab 158 from Baltimore, Cone and Bids from da Bronx to join in with the West Coast Ex Vandals to create one helluva all star lineup.  Stan 153, Nate 1, Mace, Joker, KayTwo, Refa, Resek, Kufue, Agana, Creature, Chris Granillo, Fury, Krash, Pengo and Sno all repped the West to fill out the walls.

Friday came along and the parking lot was cleared, A scissor lift was on the scene, Cuba was on the decks, Mother Nature brought some California sunshine and 3 days of painting ensued...
